Textbook: Vector Mechanics for Engineers - Statics, 6th edition, by F. P. Beer & E. R. Johnston, Jr.
Grading Policy:
- Final grade is based on homework (35%), three hour exams (I - 10%, II & III - 15% ea.); and final exam (25%)
- The following grading scale will be used:
A+ --- >95% B --- 80-84% D+ --- 65-69%
A --- 90-94% C+ --- 75-79% D --- 60-64%
B+ --- 85-89% D --- 70-74% F --- <60%
- Only neatly written problems will be graded. All work which you deem incorrect must be clearly crossed out.
- A correct answer without a correct solution outline will receive no credit.
- No makeup's
unless, in extreme circumstances, special arrangements are made with the instructor sufficiently in advance.
Homework:
- Homework (3 problems per class period) is due at the beginning of every Wednesday class unless otherwise specified by the instructor.
- No late homework!
- A random selection of about 1/3 of the assigned problems will be graded. The final answers and some solutions will be given for the rest of the problems.
- There will be a policy of one percentile point deduction from the final grade for every two missing problems up to a total of 10% deduction.
Hour Exams:
- Will be closed book, closed notes, and no equation/formula sheet.
- Will contain 3 problems.
- The dates listed in the attached course outline are tentative. An announcement will be given one week ahead of the exam.
Final Exam:
- Will be closed book, closed notes, and no equation/formula sheet.
- Will be comprehensive and contain 5-6 problems.
Student Responsibilities:
- Regular attendance is required.
- Student is responsible for the material in the sections listed on the attached course outline (even if not covered in class) and the material presented in class (even if not in the textbook).
- Please preview the sections that will be covered in class before coming to class.
Please read both the textbook and class notes, and make an honest attempt at solving the
problems before coming to office hour.
- Approximately 3 hours of out-of-class study for each class period.
Student Conduct:
- No cheating on exams, and no copying of homework! Academic sanctions will be taken against all parties involved in the act of cheating and/or plagiarism. Consult the Student Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures.
- No disruptive activities in class.
